The Wilder subdivision in Orinda is slowly being built out over a couple of decades. Our clients purchase an empty parcel at the quiet end of the development and selected Winder Gibson Architect to create a new custom home here. The site was already graded into plateaus but WGA dramatically reinterpreted the way of relating to the site, with a two story home and walk-out basement level. The home was designed with a high level of landscape integrating, blurring where structure stops and land begins. Terraces and stairs connect all parts of the site for indoor/outdoor living. A double height entry with dramatic floating steel stair organizes all levels of the home into two sides, zoning quiet and loud, adult and child, family and guest. The exterior features a calm projecting flat roof, stucco and porcelain slabs.
